Employee Relations Department
The Employee Relations Department is primarily responsible for these areas:
EMPLOYEE RELATIONS
Responsible for negotiation and administration of collective agreements with the board's eight unionized and two non-unionized employee groups, ensuring that the terms and conditions of these collective agreements are adhered to, and liaising with the various Unions/Associations to resolve disputes between the parties. The department also provides assistance to Supervisory Officers (including Director and Associate Directors), Managers, Principals, and employees on the interpretation of the collective agreements and employment legislation.
Employee enquiries regarding Board policies, employment rights and conditions of work are welcome.
JOB EVALUATION
Each job within the C.U.P.E. 2026 and Mid-Management groups is to be evaluated by a Joint Job Evaluation Committee. This committee consists of members of the staff and Union/Association representatives. The Job Evaluation process establishes the level for each job in accordance with its duties and responsibilities.
PAY EQUITY
Employee Relations is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Pay Equity in accordance with the Pay Equity Act. Pay Equity ensures that female jobs which are of comparable value to those of their male counterparts are paid comparably. Joint Pay Equity Committees have been established to negotiate Pay Equity Plans for each bargaining unit as well as one for all of the non-union employees within the Board.
