Education Development Charges By-Law

On May 23,2006, The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board adopted an Education Development Charge By-law for the Region of Peel to take effect on May 28, 2006.

Education Development Charges are used to fund the acquisition of school sites, and site related costs to accommodate growth-related pupil places.

Education Development Charges are collected by local municipalities on behalf of the Board. There are residential and non-residential education development charge rates on development of all lands within the Region of Peel, unless otherwise stated in the by-law. Education Development Charges are payable at the time of building permit issuance.

The new Education Development Charge rates for the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board are as follows:

Residential ($/new residential unit)
Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board = $536.00/unit
Peel District School Board = $1605.00/unit
Total = $2,141.00

Non-Residential ($/new sq. m. (sq. ft.) of gross floor area)
Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board = $2.48 ($0.23)
Peel District School Board = $2.48 ($0.23)
Total = $4.96 ($0.46)

The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board Education Development Charge by-law has a term of five years from the effective date. The Planning Department will be undertaking a review of the current by-law prior to the August 31, 2009 expiry date. The Board is not collecting Education Development Charges for Dufferin-County at this time.
