Dufferin-Peel chosen to participate in Ministry of Education’s
e-Learning Homework Help initiative
Initiative focused on improving student success in Mathematics
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board has been chosen as one of 15 boards in Ontario to participate in the second phase of the Ministry of Education’s e-Learning Homework Help initiative focused on improving student success in Mathematics in Grades 7 to 10.
The Homework Help initiative is managed by e-Learning Ontario and consists of two elements – Homework Help online tutoring and Ontario Educational Resource Bank.
“Dufferin-Peel is committed to increasing student success in Mathematics and we are very excited to have been chosen to be part of this innovative e-learning initiative,” said Marianne Mazzorato, Superintendent of Program. “This project not only provides our students with an interactive learning tool, but it also connects them to certified teachers for one-on-one support with their homework.”
The new Homework Help online tutoring website is developed and operated by the Independent Learning Council (ILC) to provide homework support for students by certified Ontario teachers. The site was launched on September 20. The service is free and anonymous and operates nightly Sunday-Thursday from 5:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m. To access the service, students simply register online using the guidelines provided by their teacher and the DPCDSB access code. The site address is http://homeworkhelp.ilc.org.
The Ontario Educational Resource Bank (OERB) is a collection of 16,000+ online teaching resources contributed by teachers from across Ontario. These resources are intended to provide supplementary support for teachers and include lesson plans, videos, activities, maps and interactive multimedia. The site is available to all teachers in the board and is accessible by login and password. In addition to teacher access, the site is also available to students using a DPCDSB student login. The intent is that students access resources to supplement and support their learning and assist with homework and individual achievement.
Information material about this site will be sent home with students and distributed to teachers this month.
The Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board is one of largest and most diverse school districts in Ontario, with approximately 87,000 students in 145 Catholic schools throughout Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Orangeville. With over 10,000 employees, the board is also one of the largest employers in the region. This year marks Dufferin-Peel’s 40th anniversary as a consolidated school board.
