Elementary EQAO Assessment Results

Grade 3 and 6
Reading, Writing and Mathematics

The Grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics assessments conducted annually by EQAO measure student achievement of the provincial curriculum expectations in reading, writing and mathematics.  The assessments test what students know and how well they apply their knowledge and skills in everyday situations by requiring students to read and respond to passages, to write, and to solve mathematical problems.

Student work was evaluated according to the expectations in The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8 using a four-level assessment scale that reflects the four achievement levels in The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 1-8.  These four levels are as follows:

Level 4 identifies achievement within the provincial curriculum that exceeds the provincial standard.

Level 3 (the provincial standard) identifies a high level of achievement of the provincial expectations.

Level 2 identifies achievement that is approaching the standard.

Level 1 identifies achievement that falls below the provincial standard.

Assessment Results

EQAO test results continue to improve for Dufferin-Peel students. Results of Grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics assessments indicate that Dufferin-Peel students achieved increases in each of the areas tested of between 2% and 6% over last year.  The gains in Grade 3 reading and mathematics and Grade 6 reading, writing and mathematics were twice the rate of the provincial results.  The results indicate that over 60% of Dufferin-Peel students and students across the province are at the provincial standard in Grades 3 and 6 reading, writing and mathematics.
