Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT)
For all students who entered secondary school in the 2000-2001 school year or later must successfully complete the Provincial Secondary School Literacy Test in English in order to earn an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
The test will be based on the Ontario curriculum expectations for language and communication, particularly in reading and writing, up to and including Grade 9. Remedial assistance will be provided for students who do not complete the test sucessfully.
Students normally take the literacy test when they are in Grade 10. Students who do not successfully complete the test will have opportunitites to retake it. Once students have successfully completed the literacy test in English, they may not retake it.
The test is designed and marked by the Education Quality & Accountability Office (EQAO) and is administered in October of each year.
