Busing at St. Dunstan School

We have 7 buses, which pick up students from the various neighbourhoods in our school boundaries. There are also 3 mini buses, which drop off and pick up special needs students. School buses drop and pick up students in the Bus Loading Zone at the east side of our school. The mini buses will also utilize the front drop off Zone. These areas are reserved for school buses only.

If for any unforeseen reason a bus arrives after the morning bell, the drivers have been instructed to drive on to the front of the school where they are to call the school to inform them of their arrival and for a staff member to come out to escort the students into the school.

This year our school is participating in the safe arrival to and from school program. If a child in JK, SK or Grade 1 is not being received at the end of their school day by a parent or guardian at the bus stop, the bus driver will bring the child back to the school and parents will be contacted.

For the safety of our younger students in JK and SK, each bus has 1 or 2 Kinder Patrollers who physically escort the children around to the Kindergarten play yard. They also pick up JK and SK students from the classroom at the end of each day and escort them to their bus lines in the gym. JK and SK students are required to sit in the first seats of the bus to ensure their safety. All other students sit according to their grade level in assigned seating areas of the buses. We thank all our students who volunteer their time each year as Kinder and Bus Patrollers assisting with safety programs in the school.

Some of our buses have Bus Patrollers who monitor the safe entrance and exit of our student at the bus stops as well as at school. They also inform the Bus Supervisor of any infractions by students. If a student has not followed the bus rules they will first receive a warning from the Bus Supervisor, Bus Driver or the Principal. If the infraction occurs again they may receive a pink slip from the Bus Driver and or will see the Principal / Vice Principal who may also inform parents with a phone call. A third infraction will lead to a phone call to parents, a suspension of Bus privileges for a specific period of time accompanied by a letter to parents.
