Peel Police - Public Safety Advisory – High Risk Offender Being Released to Mississauga Area

Mississauga – After receiving information from the Ministry of the Attorney General – Peel Crown Attorney’s Office and upon careful review of the issues of public safety, Peel Regional Police are issuing a Public Safety Advisory in the wake of a high-risk offender’s release into the Mississauga area.
Brendon James MACNEILL, age 38, will be residing in the Mississauga Valley area after his release from custody on August 28, 2009. Mr. MACNEILL has a criminal record with convictions registered for offences including: Sexual Interference, Luring a Child under 14 Years of Age and Child Pornography.
On August 28, 2009, Brendon MACNEILL was released from the Maplehurst Detention Centre after serving a custodial sentence. He is being released into the community while still bound by a Probation Order. Information received by Peel Regional Police indicates that Mr. MACNEILL is a high risk to re-offend. Peel Regional Police and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services will be working together to monitor MACNEILL’s activities within the community.
This release is being issued to the public as a precautionary measure. Peel Regional Police strives to protect the public and values safety above all else. Members of the public are reminded that, although Mr. MACNEILL does present a significant safety risk to the public, he is still a citizen of Canada and his rights are guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. As such, Peel Regional Police will act to protect these rights if they are infringed on.
Peel Regional Police are advising the public to use caution if they encounter Mr. MACNEILL and to practice crime prevention and safety measures at all times. Parents should be cognizant of their children’s activities and mindful of whom they are associating with.
