Holy Name of Mary Dress Code Policy

Holy Name of Mary uniform items must be purchased

from R. J. McCarthy Ltd.

 

The following compulsory standard HNM CSS student uniform items from McCarthy’s include:

 

  • Grey McCarthy dress pants 
  • Kilt (must be worn at a respectable length and no shorter than 14 cm above the knee)
  • One of the following HNM crested tops: French-cut blouse (3/4 or short sleeve) , fitted golf shirt (short or long sleeves), white turtleneck
  • Holy Name Mary crested sweater or fleece

 

Gym uniform:

 

  • HNM crested  white gym shirt/navy gym shorts/white gym socks/non marking running shoes
  • Optional HNM navy sweatpants

 

Other Compulsory Uniform Items available from local stores include:

 

  • Completely Black Dress Shoes with a low heal
  • Dress shoes: plain black only/low and closed heel/closed toe/ fit below the ankle
  • Leg wear with kilt: plain navy or black tights; or plain navy/black or white knee highs (one colour of leg wear at a time)
  • Leg wear with pants:Plain navy/black or white socks must also be worn with pants

 

Expectations:

 

  • All students must wear the compulsory school uniform in the building
  • School uniform must be worn on all educational field trips unless otherwise approved by administration
  • Uniform must be in good repair (no rips, tears or defaced logo)
  • Blouses and golf shirts are to be buttoned in a modest and appropriate manner and must not show beneath the hem of the sweater/fleece
  • Undershirts, t-shirts/undergarments must be completely plain white
  • No long-sleeves under short sleeve shirts
  • Students must change for required courses (drama., phys. ed. ,dance) in areas assigned by their teacher (not at their lockers) and only at the very beginning of class time
  • Outdoor clothing such as hats, coats, jackets, scarves, mitts and gloves are to be stored in the lockers upon entry and not worn in the school  throughout the day
  • Simple jewellery worn in modest good taste is permitted (studded collars, bracelets, giant beads etc are not permitted)
  • Civvies day attire must conform to our standards of modesty appropriate for a Catholic School (The uniform committee acknowledges that it cannot list all inappropriate items, however, the following are but a few of  unacceptable items: bandanas, spaghetti straps, tank tops, off the shoulder tops, sheer see-through tops, low cut tops, drug related or profane slogans; no skin is to be exposed between the shoulders and mid-thigh)
  • Participation in civvies days is voluntary; those not participating must be in regular uniform
  • Full uniform must be worn during exams

 

Consequences:

 

  • Students are required to be in full and appropriate uniform at all times as part of their regular duties as a HNM student
  • Disciplinary action may include the following: consultation, counselling, a phone call home, a letter home, one day suspension
  • When possible students may be sent home for the day
