School Library Information Centre

Our School Library Information and Resource Centre is an extension to each and every classroom in our school. The School Library Information Centre offers a learning environment for every member of our school community to access.
Our goal is for the school Library to become a place:
- where everyone comes to discover, explore and enjoy the written word;
-
where everyone can access information, learn to discern if the information is from a reliable source, if it is up to date, and appropriate for their needs;
-
where everyone can research, investigate, question, analyze, compare, contrast and develop ideas;
-
where everyone work as partners on the road of life-long learning; and
-
where with cooperation, mutual respect and energy, everyone can access and share resources as we continue our educational journey.
Every member of the school community is invited to use our Centre on a regular, frequent basis. As with all areas of a school, routines and procedures must be followed to ensure and maintain organization.

Book Exchange Times
Each classroom is invited and encouraged to come to the Library to borrow and exchange books during their scheduled book exchange time.
Kindergarten students will visit the Library once per week to exchange their books. Kindergarten and all other students are encouraged to read their books at home with their families.
The Love of Reading and Books
Make reading a book a fun, consistent, family affair as children who see their parent(s)/guardian(s) read, observe positive modeling from a very important role model, and strive to be like their parent(s).
Have your child(ren) keep a book for an entire week, as repetitive reading will help him/her tremendously. Many strategies can be used with your child, such as: shared reading, reading to your child, having your child read to you, word, sound and letter identification by pointing to various words, letter blends (sh, th, etc.) and asking your child comprehension questions with respect to what you or they have read.
Care of Our Library Books
We ask that you to the time to speak to your child(ren) about caring for our Library books. Please ensure that your child(ren) care for the books they borrow from the Library and that they keep the books in a safe place when at home, away from younger siblings and pets. To protect Library materials, ensure that your child(ren) have a plastic bag to carry the book to and from school. The cost of books in today's economy is quite staggering, thus your co-operation and assistance will ensure that all students have access to books for years to come.
Lost or Damaged Books
Should a book your child(ren) borrowed is lost or damaged beyond repair, you will be charged for the replacement value of the book. Should the book be found, your money will be reimbursed to you. We prefer the book be returned and your money reimbursed to you as some books in our collection are no longer in print and thus cannot be replaced. As well, we ask that you do not purchase the same book that has been lost or damaged, as most often we are able to obtain books with Library binding, and, at times, at special prices.
