Presenting P.U.S.H.
By Bianca Ceolin, P.U.S.H. Student
P.U.S.H. (People United for Success and Hope) was designed for students who have the intelligence to go somewhere in life but just need that extra push to get started. To get into the P.U.S.H. program isn’t as easy as it may seem. There has to be a desire from the student to make a change.
It may appear to some as if we don’t do work and that we have a lot of ‘perks’, such as being able to eat in class. You are entitled to your own opinion and you may see it that way, but let me tell you what’s really going on inside the classroom. Everyone has a different life story which makes them who they are. This changes how they may see things or even learn.
Sometimes sitting in a class and listening to a lesson can drive some students off the wall. I myself know that sitting in a classroom and having deadlines doesn’t work for me because of the way I am. When I am told to do something that I don’t want to do, I refuse to do it, especially when it’s forced upon me. P.U.S.H. is the most effective way for me to get my credits because I can do my work on my time and feel more independent. I know that if I don’t do It, I’m the one missing out, nobody else.
I have learned a lot throughout my time here. I have become something I never saw myself being, a leader. I hosted a school charity event (Hoop Fest) with my classmates, ran a bake sale (I DON’T BAKE), contributed time to social justice causes and now I’m in the process of running an elementary mentoring program. That is just the beginning. I went horseback riding, experienced a highlow rope adventure and so many other amazing trips where our teacher, Mrs. Piercey, put us to the test and challenged us to take risks. I would never have seen myself here and I would never have imagined that I would be a leader and a graduate as well, but now my future is changing.
