STRATEGIC SYSTEM PLAN: 2010-15

During 2008-09, the Director of Education and Board of Trustees initiated a system review process intended to allow for consultation with the wider Catholic community in Peel and Dufferin on matters related to the board’s strengths, challenges, and recommended areas of focus over the next three to five years. Consisting primarily of surveys and small group meetings, the outcome of this extensive community consultative process was intended to provide trustees and senior management in Dufferin-Peel with a better understanding of the interests, concerns and accolades identified by local parents, Catholic school council members, pastors, senior students and recent graduates, unions, and associations.

Equipped with the results of this system review process, Trustees, in conjunction with the Director of Education, developed a five-principled Strategic System Plan designed to shape school, classroom and corporate decision making and direction over the next five years. The principles, Catholicity, Community Engagement, Learning Environment, Parish-Home-School and Physical Environment, are outlined in the attached document. This document will be distributed widely within the Dufferin-Peel community.

ARE YOU TICKED?

Direction of school support has long been an issue for Catholic school boards in Ontario. The fact is that, unless the municipality is notified, the school support designation, for assessment purposes, automatically defaults to public school support when an individual or family moves to a new address.

This may have an impact on students’ eligibility to attend Catholic elementary schools, trustee representation on school boards, and on government perception of support for Catholic education.

We want to bring a greater awareness around this matter and have created the Are You Ticked? campaign as the communication vehicle for this awareness.

If you would like more information on school support designation or would like us to help you check or  change your school support designation to the Catholic system, please call us at (905) 890-0708, ext. 24512.
